Indian tea exports touched record high in 2017

NEW DELHI - Indian tea exports were the highest for 36 years at 240.68 million kg in 2017. The previous record, of 241.3 million kg, was achieved in 1981.

India exported teas at an average price of more than US$3 per kg in 2017 to 12 countries  - Japan, Ireland, Australia, Canada, Singapore, the US, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Germany, the Netherlands, the UAE and the United Kingdom.

 

Exports to Australia totalled 2.89 million kg worth US$16.05 million.

 

India’s domestic market of tea has been growing in recent years, directly affecting the exportable surplus of tea available  (ATI).
