Chinese, U.S. enterprises sign off on agricultural transaction contracts

BEIJING – Around 20 Chinese and U.S. enterprises on Thursday signed agricultural transaction contracts worth US$5.012 billion, under which Chinese enterprises will import 12.53 million metric tonnes of soybean and 371 tonnes of pork and beef from the U.S, companies.

China Daily reported that nearly 100 officials and enterprise representatives from China and the United States attended the signing ceremony in Des Moines, Iowa.

Addressing the ceremony, Counsellor for Science and Technology with the Chinese Consulate in Chicago, Xu Hai, said that Chinese and U.S. Presidents agreed at their first meeting in April to carry out "the 100-Day Action Plan" under the framework of the U.S.-China Comprehensive Economic Dialogue (CED).

“This activity (contract signing) can be taken as one of the concrete measures that materialise from the Presidential meeting between the two countries," Xu was reported as saying.  www.webershandwick.cn (ATI).
