BEIJING - Growth during just the past four years has led China to surpass developed economies such as the United States and Japan to rank first globally in the number of express packages delivered last year, the State Post Bureau has announced.

The Bureau, which operates China Post, the national postal service, said 40.06 billion express packages were delivered in 2017, 33 times the number in 2007. That equals an increase of 42% annually.

China Daily reported that the express delivery industry had also created innovations in technology and green development, with about 100 smart sorting centres built across the country and 200,000 smart delivery boxes deployed.  www.webershandwick.cn (ATI).
